18 Hour Offshore Fishing Report


December 27, 2009

A couple of good weather days allowed for a couple good fishing trips this week! Lots of limits on Blackfish were taken – up to 10 lb. 9 oz. The striper boat also produced limits and fish to 22 lbs., with some big blues mixed in.
POOL REPORT: Jeff Shelton, Fox Chase PA, had his blackfish limit, which included the 10 lb. 9 oz. pool fish. Jerry Shelton, Chalfonte PA, also caught his limit – to 8 lbs. Tony Wilde, Edison NJ, had pool honors on the striper boat, catching a limit and the big 22 lb’er. Paul Fisher, Saylorsburg PA, had a great day limiting on stripers to 15 lbs.

December 5, 2009

We had some good trips this week. Jigging for the stripers and bluefish was the ticket, producing stripers to 25 lbs. and blues to 15 lbs. Those on the blackfish boat had plenty of limits, too.
STRIPER REPORT: John Beatty, Philadelphia, caught his limit of stripers + 9 big blues. Mark Luizzi, also from Phila., also had a striper limit to 25 lbs and 11 big blues. Eddie Tate, Rio Grande, limited on stripers and added 7 of the blues to his tally.
BLACKFISH REPORT: Jim Jenkins, Camden, got his limit that included the week’s biggest at 8 lb. 10 oz. Don Wong, Jr., Philadelphia, also caught a limit that ran to 6 lbs.

November 20, 2009

Better weather days this week – finally! We were able to get trips out for both the blackfish and stripers, with local boys catching all the big ones:
STRIPER REPORT: Alan Ritter had the biggest one at 25 lbs, while Ed Stickler and Russ Burkholder each caught a 22 lb. fish.
BLACKFISH REPORT: Doug Dougherty had one at 9 lb. 4 oz.; Andrew Cicchitti caught his limit that included one at 8 lbs. Others catching their limits – to 6 lbs. – were Tom Whitehead and “Bayonne” Bob.

November 14, 2009

As everyone knows, the big storm hit the whole coast hard, causing us to get out on only one charter early in the week. It was a good day for stripers and blues, with every angler catching at least 1 striper and some blues, as well.
POOL WINNER: Pat Brady, Philadelphia won with a 44”, 26 lb. striper.

November 7, 2009

The Striper season is on! We’ve made a couple trips this week and had some success. Better weather days were definitely welcome!
Big Fish Report: Bob Steinmetz, West Wildwood, had the biggest of the week, with his 40” / 22 lb. Striper. Denny Nordone, Erma, had one weighing in at 20 lbs. and Paul Fisher, Saylorsburg PA, had an 18 lb’er.

Weekending September 18, 2009

Fishing is better each day. We’re catching triggerfish, blues, sea bass and plenty of porgies. Lots of croakers are still around, too. We continue to run the 4-hour and 6-hour trips daily and have added 8-hour wreck fishing on Saturdays and Sundays.
Big Fish of the Week: Bragging rights go to Ripley Armstrong, Drexel Hill PA, whose big one was an 11 lb. bluefish. Rudy Gruhler, Morton PA, weighed in a 5 lb. triggerfish; and Goldie Horner, Cape May, caught a 3 lb. 4 oz. porgy.
High Hook Honors were claimed by B.D. Dexter, N. Cape May, who filled his cooler with 29 porgies, 13 sea bass and 4 triggerfish.

Weekending September 12, 2009

It's been a rough week for weather, but on the days we got out, fishing was great. We're catching porgies plentiful and big-several caught weighing up to 3 pounds. High Honors went to Sandy Fisher, Saylorsburg, PA, whose busy day ended with 18 porgies, 10 triggers, and 9 seabass.

Weekending September 5, 2009

Croakers, blues, sea bass, and porgies are being got on both the 4 hour and 6 hour boats, along with a lot of triggerfish. With flounder season closing, both boats will be targeting sea bass and porgies.

Weekending August 28, 2009

Both the 4- and 6-hour boats are making mixed catches of flounder, croakers, blues, triggerfish and some porgies. When the flounder season closes, both boats will be targeting sea bass and porgies.
Big Fish of the Week: Terri Zatavesky, Goshen, took the honors with a 5 lb. 5 oz. flounder. Morgan Casey, Cape May Court House, weighed in a nice 5 lb’er. Paul Fisher, Saylorsburg, had one at 4 lbs. 9 oz., and Mike Richards, South Phila., caught one at 4 lb. 8 oz.
High Hook Honors were claimed by Matt Franco, North Cape May, who ended up with 4 flounder and 20 croakers.

Weekending August 14, 2009

Flounder fishing on the day trips has been good this week when we had decent drifts. The 4-hour night boat, leaving at 7 PM, continues to catch small blues and croakers.
Big Fish of the Week: Bill DeLorenzo, Philad., has the bragging rights with his 6 lb. 2 oz. flounder. Tom Toohey, also from Phila., weighed his heaviest one in at 5 lbs. 9 oz. Earl Dawley, Moorestown, had a pair of twin 5 lb’ers.
High Hook Honors went to Rich Podulka, Penrose Park, PA, who had his limit of flounder to 4 lbs.

Weekending August 7, 2009

We’ve had decent flounder fishing this week when it wasn’t raining or blowing, and we’re also catching some blues and a few sea bass. The night boat (a 4-hour trip, leaving at 7 PM) is catching small blues and croakers.
Big Fish of the Week Report: Mike DeMarco, Doylestown, had the title with his 6 lb. 3 oz. flounder. Joe Burke, North Wildwood, weighed one in at 5 lbs. 10 oz. Nancy Swanson, Philadelphia, had one at 5 lbs. 14 oz., and Ken Cramer, Sr., North Cape May, caught a 5 lb’er.
High Hook Honors were claimed by Ken Cramer, Jr., Wildwood Crest, who caught a limit of 6 flounder up to 5 lbs.

Weekending July 23, 2009

Flounder and Blues are the catches on both boats. We’re waiting on the arrival of the Croakers – sure to be in full force any day now.
Big Fish of the week on the 6-hour boat was a 6 lb. Flounder, caught by Dave Resch, Philadelphia. Others were the twin 5 lb.’ers taken by Goldie Horner, Cape May. Gina Kramer, Drexel Hill, weighed one in at 4 lbs. 8 oz., and Jeff Bailey, NYC, had a nice 5 lb. Blue.
High Hook Honors were claimed by Missy Helfrich, Burlington, VT, who caught 4 keeper Flounder and 6 Blues.

Weekending July 18, 2009

Both boats are catching Flounder and Blues, with a couple of Croakers showing on most trips now, along with the occasional Weakie.
The 6-hour boat boasts our biggest Flounder of the season – a whopping 30,” 9 lb. 4 oz. fish caught by Bob Steinmetz, Havertown. Other big ones this week were caught by Rob Campbell, Deptford, with one at 5 lb. 12 oz. Vinnie Lucchesi, Drexel Hill, brought in two that weighed in at 4 lbs. 12 oz. and 3 lbs. 9 oz. – his first keeper Flukes!
High Hook Honors on the 6-hour boat were claimed by Ken Barber, New Brunswick, for 6 Flounder to 4 lbs.

Weekending July 11, 2009

Flounder are the hot item on the 6-hour boat this week, and the 4-hour boat is catching some, too.
Big Fish Report from the 6-hour boat: Joe Burke, Anglesea, had the largest Flounder this week – at 6 lb. 9 oz. We also had 2 Fluke weighing in at an even 6 lbs. They were caught by Mike DeMarco, Doylestown, PA and by Xandel Reinheimer, from Epping, New Hampshire.
High Hook Honors went to Kathy Steinmetz, Havertown, who had a limit of Flounder to 5 lbs. Husband, Bob Steinmetz, ended his day with a near-limit of 5, also ranging to 5 lbs.
SURPRISE OF THE WEEK: Saturday’s 6-hour trip produced 2 Drum – one at 70 lbs. and the other at 60 lbs.

Weekending July 3, 2009

Both the 4-hour and 6-hour boats have been catching Flounder this week. The 6-hour boat has been primarily fishing the Old Grounds and Reef Site 11, with some big Flounder being taken each trip.
The big fish and pool report from the 6-hour boat: Earl Dawley, Mooerstown, NJ, had the week’s biggest Fluke, weighing in at 7 lbs. 8 oz. Bob Twardy, Sayreville, NJ, caught one at 6 lbs. 9 oz. and Matt Smith, North Wildwood, took the honors with his at 5 lbs. 12 oz. Ed Wittmer, Upper Dublin, PA, won with a 6 lb. Blue.
High Hook honors went to B. D. Dexter, Lower Township, for his limit of Fluke to 5 lbs.

Weekending June 27, 2009

Flounder fishing has definitely picked up on the days when there was a decent drift. The 6-hour boat has had some good fishing on those days, producing some very nice fish. The 4-hour boat is mainly targeting sea bass.
Here’s the rundown on the 6-hour boat: Joe “Hit Man” Gallagher, Drexel Hill had a great week – he had the pool on one day with a 6 lb. 9 oz. Flounder and then made another trip, where he and Hank Lisotto, Wildwood Crest, tied for the prize with a matching pair of 7 lb’ers! Joe Burke, North Wildwood, had pool honors on another day with his big fluke that weighed in at 5 lbs. 9 oz. The folks from United Refrigeration, Philadelphia, all had a good day, with Dan Bethele and Bill Stapleton both catching a few nice fluke, as did Ryan and Pat McDonald from Blackwood, NJ.

Weekending June 20, 2009

The 6-hour boat is targeting flounder now, with some good-sized fish being taken – despite some bad weather this past week. The 4-hour boat is going for the sea bass
Big fish for the 6-hour boat were all caught by the ladies this week: Wilma Birchmeier, Cherry Hill, weighed in a hefty 5 lb. 12 oz. Fluke. Janet Williams, Cape May Court House, boated a nice one at 5 lbs. 6 oz., and Jane King, Wildwood Crest, had one at 4 lbs. 9 oz
We had a lot of excitement on our offshore trip this week – Pat Lynch, Smithville, NJ, set a new state record for Snowy Grouper! Jeff Carroll, Smyrna, DE, caught 3 tilefish – 2 golden and 1 blueline, along with 6 rose fish.

Weekending June 13, 2009

When weather allowed us to get out, we had Seabass catches on both the 4hr and 6hr boat. Still catching plenty of Seabass but not all are keepers.
The big fish this week on the 6hr boat went to Nicholas Spinosa of Cape May with a 4 pound Flounder. Andrew Ziccardi, Wildwood Crest, weighed in his biggest Seabass at 3 pounds 4 ounces, and Christopher Kanya, Rio Grande, had several blues with the biggest weighing 6 ½ pounds. High hook for the week was Sammy Stroud of Malvern, PA who went home with 18 keeper Seabass.
Our 6hr boat is chartered Friday, 6/19 and Saturday, 6/20. .

Weekending May 31, 2009

The Seabass catches on both the 4hr and 6hr are still good-but not all keepers.
The big fish this week on the 6hr boat included a 3 pound 9 ounce Flounder caught by Joe Leifheit from Victorian Towers in Cape May. Don Vanaartsdalen, Wildwood Crest, weighed in his biggest Seabass at 3 pounds. Joe Gruhler, Morton, PA, had a 6 pound Blue. High hook for the week was Spencer Sprague, Villas, who came home with 16 Seabass.

We're catching plenty of Seabass on both the 4 hour and 6 hour boats, but you've got to weed through them for keepers.
Our 6 hour season got off to a good start, producing the 1st Flounder of the season caught by Tony Wilde, Edison, NJ, and weighing 4.75 pounds. Other big fish this week were taken by Bob Steinmetz, Havertown, PA who had a 3 pound 11 ounce Seabass. Joe "Hitman" Gallagher, Drexel Hill, PA, had one at 2 pounds 9 ounces and daughter Gina Cramer, had a 2 pounder. Surprise of the week: Jim Walsh, Wildwood Crest, boated an 8 pound Cod. High Hook honors go to Tom McNamee, Erma, NJ who ended his day with 18 keeper Seabass.

  • The only limits we had today were on dogfish and patience. Strong currents & dogfish hampered the catch. However, most anglers managed to be in the teens on seabass and some tile fish spread around the boat. NE winds 15 to 20 and an Easterly swell. Tomorrow is another day!
